SMALL SPILL CONTROL
In the event of a small chemical spill or incident
(defined as five gallons or less) the following procedures are to be followed:
4. Ventilate spilled areas and stop or contain the
leak/spill source if it can be done without risk.
5. Use a pump or absorbent materials to collect the
spilled inspection penetrants into an approved container pending disposal.
6. Wash spilled areas with detergent and water to
reduce slipping hazards. Insuring that no contaminated water is introduced
into the sewage system or collect the spill in approved drums for disposal.
7. If the spill involves fire, report the fire in
accordance with established procedures.
8. If a spill involves battery electrolytes or acids
containing lead or other heavy metals, containerize the residue for proper
disposal. (DO NOT flush into the sewage system.)
If in doubt of the proper methods of spill containment evacuate the area and call the local hazard material team for assistance.
